Condominiums & Cooperatives Associate – Real Estate Litigation

About the role

Nixon Peabody’s Cooperatives and Condominiums Team is seeking a motivated associate to join its New York City, Long Island, or Albany office. The role focuses on complex real‑estate litigation, regulatory compliance, and government investigations for a diverse client base that includes developers, landlords, cooperative and condominium sponsors, and nonprofit organizations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support litigation matters involving real‑estate disputes, construction issues, and rent‑stabilization compliance.
• Advise clients on the Martin Act, New York Executive Law, and other regulatory frameworks.
• Represent clients in investigations and enforcement actions by the New York State Attorney General and other state or city agencies.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements; conduct discovery and trial preparation.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys to develop legal strategies and provide counsel to clients.

Required profile

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the New York Bar.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in real‑estate litigation, preferably on the landlord/owner side.
• Strong academic credentials and excellent judgment.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Experience with complex real‑estate litigation and construction disputes.
• Knowledge of Rent Stabilization Law, the Martin Act, and New York Executive Law.
• Familiarity with government investigations and enforcement proceedings.
