Compliance Auditor – Los Angeles County Public Works

About the role

The County seeks a Compliance Auditor to join the Public Works department. In this position you will lead and support departmental audits, ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the agency.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and execute departmental audits.
• Conduct financial, compliance, and operational audits as well as accounting system reviews.
• Collaborate with external auditors and serve as a liaison during audit processes.
• Investigate suspected fraud through the County Fraud Hotline and prepare investigative reports.
• Evaluate accounting systems and internal controls, recommending improvements.
• Prepare written audit reports and management communications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field with required accounting coursework, including auditing.
• Option I: Minimum two years of professional auditing experience at the Intermediate Accountant‑Auditor level, or Option II: Minimum three years of professional accounting experience.
• Valid California Class C driver’s license or alternative transportation.
• Physical Class 2 – Light (occasional lifting up to 10 lb, moderate ambulation).
