Communications Officer – Dispatch

About the role

The Town of Hanover is looking for a calm‑voiced Communications Officer to serve as the first point of contact for emergency and non‑emergency calls. You will coordinate police, fire, and EMS resources across multiple Upper Valley communities, ensuring rapid and accurate response.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, screen, and prioritize emergency and non‑emergency calls.
• Determine and dispatch the appropriate public‑safety personnel.
• Provide pre‑arrival instructions to callers when needed.
• Maintain detailed logs and prepare monthly activity reports.
• Enter, validate, and update information in SPOT and NCIC systems.
• Perform driver background checks, NICS checks, and monitor alarm systems.
• Assist officers with incident, accident, arrest, and booking report data.

Required profile

• Knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes and dispatch procedures.
• Familiarity with the geography and street system of the service area.
• Ability to operate multiple computer and communication tools under pressure.
