Commissioning Manager - Data Center HVAC Systems

About the role

Armstrong Fluid Technology is hiring a Commissioning Manager in Niagara Falls, Ontario, to own the end-to-end readiness, start-up and commissioning of its packaged plant room and HVAC systems for data center projects across North America. The role bridges manufacturing, quality, logistics, project delivery and site operations, and leads the commissioning team and its processes so that work is completed safely, on time, within budget and to specification.

Key responsibilities

• Lead package start-up, commissioning, functional testing, performance verification and customer acceptance at site, and supervise installation readiness with internal field engineers, skilled trades and third-party contractors.
• Manage deployment and commissioning plans aligned with project milestones, site constraints and logistics, and track progress while escalating safety, quality, schedule or technical risks.
• Perform or lead final pre-shipment inspections of mechanical, electrical, controls, labelling, documentation, cleanliness and preservation, verify completion against drawings, specifications, quality records, FAT results and punch lists, and coordinate closure of deficiencies before shipment release.
• Inspect packages after delivery, document damage or deviations with photos, initiate deficiencies or claims, and coordinate corrective actions with logistics, Quality, Project Management and the customer.
• Provide technical leadership and troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, controls and integrated system issues, and ensure compliance with quality requirements, drawings, risk assessments and method statements.
• Own or coordinate FAT, SAT, integrated functional testing and commissioning hold points, and confirm defects are documented, corrected and verified before handover.
• Build the commissioning team, set standards, methods, tools and training, plan resources and create a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
• Keep commissioning records complete and accurate for project completion, customer training and handover.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with formal qualifications in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Demonstrated experience with pre-shipment and delivery inspections, equipment start-up, commissioning and customer handover.
• Proven experience building and leading a commissioning or field service team, including resource planning and competency development.
• Extensive experience supervising installation and commissioning of HVAC or mechanical/electrical systems, especially in data centers, and managing multi-disciplinary site teams and subcontractors.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel about 30% of the time across North America.

Required skills

• FAT, SAT, QA/QC inspection, punch-list management, transport-damage assessment, start-up planning and commissioning documentation.
• Root-cause investigation and coordination of corrective action across factory and field teams.
• Mechanical, electrical and control systems knowledge for HVAC and pumping technologies, and ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams and layout schematics.
• Knowledge of data center project lifecycles and customer-specific commissioning protocols.
• Working knowledge of building management systems (BMS) or remote monitoring platforms.
