College Professor of Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Non-Tenure Track)

About the role

The Department of Engineering at Abilene Christian University (ACU) is seeking an energetic, talented engineer for a non-tenure track faculty position to help develop and grow its electrical and mechanical engineering degree programs. The role contributes to hands-on engineering education through curricular development, classroom instruction, student mentorship and possible administrative leadership. ACU is affiliated with the Church of Christ and requires employees to be professing Christians willing to support the university's Christian mission.

Key responsibilities

• Teach discipline-specific courses in electrical or mechanical engineering and foundational, lower-level general engineering courses.
• Develop instructional methods and experiential learning activities based on current engineering pedagogy best practices.
• Partner in improving teaching, coursework and laboratory facilities to support ABET accreditation.
• Mentor engineering students on academics, career planning and professional development, and supervise senior capstone design teams.
• Serve as faculty advisor for student professional organization chapters and design teams.
• Take part in program development, curriculum refinement and departmental committees, and help with administrative duties, lab management or industry outreach as needed.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (aerospace, chemical, computer, materials science, mechatronics, nuclear or systems engineering).
• Demonstrated record of effective communication, teamwork and planning.
• Preferred: university-level classroom and laboratory teaching experience, 5+ years of professional engineering industry experience, coursework or training in engineering pedagogy, experience designing courses and labs, and PE licensure or ability to obtain it.
