About the role
We are seeking a licensed Co-Occurring Disorder Counselor to provide outpatient substance use and mental health treatment services on an independent‑contractor basis. The role involves delivering individual, family and group counseling, assessments, treatment planning and documentation for clients primarily residing in community‑based group homes in Baltimore.
Key responsibilities
- Facilitate individual, family and group counseling sessions and diagnostic evaluations as scheduled.
- Develop and update treatment plans, conduct monthly reviews and comprehensive reassessments every six months.
- Complete accurate documentation in the electronic health record system in compliance with CARF, Medicaid and state regulations.
- Coordinate care with program staff, primary care providers, housing, probation and other external service providers.
- Provide make‑up sessions, crisis intervention and safety planning as needed.
- Maintain fidelity to evidence‑based clinical models and apply trauma‑informed, person‑centered practices.
Required profile
- Current, unrestricted license to practice as a substance use or mental health counselor in Maryland.
- Experience delivering outpatient co‑occurring disorder treatment to adults.
- Ability to work approximately 40 hours per week across two affiliated organizations.
- Self‑employed status with capacity to manage taxes, benefits and liability coverage.
Required skills
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems (e.g., ICANotes).
- Knowledge of evidence‑based substance use and mental health treatment modalities.
- Understanding of COMAR, CARF and Medicaid documentation standards.
