Clinical Toxicologist 1

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a Clinical Toxicologist Level 1 to join its laboratory team. This entry‑level position supports the analysis of patient samples for drugs, narcotics, poisons and other controlled substances using advanced instrumental techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex analyses on patient samples using LC‑MS/MS, GC‑MS, HS‑GC‑FID and GC‑MS/MS instruments.
• Prepare samples with solid‑phase extraction (SPE) and liquid‑liquid extraction (LLE) methods.
• Review and verify patient results and quality‑control data.
• Operate software platforms such as ChemStation® and MassHunter® for instrument control and data processing.
• Maintain instrumentation, perform routine calibrations and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Support laboratory quality‑assurance activities, including QC tracking and documentation.
• Adhere to university policies, safeguard assets and follow safety protocols.

Required profile

• Associate degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Valid State of Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel license.
• No prior professional experience required; strong learning agility and teamwork orientation.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with LC‑MS/MS, GC‑MS, HS‑GC‑FID, GC‑MS/MS instrumentation.
• Experience in SPE and LLE sample preparation techniques.
• Familiarity with ChemStation®, MassHunter®, Sunquest, UChart and Microsoft Office.
