Clinical Faculty – Transplant Hepatology (Open Rank)

About the role

The Transplant Hepatology faculty member provides comprehensive care for patients with acute and chronic liver disease and for liver‑transplant recipients across the full continuum of care. This role integrates clinical excellence, program growth, education, and research within a multidisciplinary transplant team.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate end‑stage liver disease and acute liver failure patients for transplant candidacy and present cases to the selection committee.
• Manage wait‑listed patients, including MELD‑based prioritization and optimization of medical status.
• Treat complications of cirrhosis such as ascites, variceal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
• Direct post‑transplant care, including immunosuppression, prophylaxis, and management of infectious, biliary, and vascular complications.
• Diagnose and treat acute and chronic allograft rejection and recurrent liver disease.
• Perform and interpret procedures such as paracentesis, liver biopsy, and endoscopic variceal management.

Required profile

• MD or DO degree.
• Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology (ABIM).
• Board certification or eligibility in Transplant Hepatology (or completed accredited fellowship).
• Active, unrestricted Florida medical license and DEA registration.

Required skills

• Immunosuppression management for transplant patients.
• Management of decompensated cirrhosis and its complications.
• Performance and interpretation of paracentesis and liver biopsies.
• Endoscopic evaluation and treatment of varices.
• MELD‑based prioritization of wait‑list patients.
• UNOS/OPTN and CMS outcomes reporting.
