Civil Engineer

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Civil Engineer to act as on-site technical expert for the civil engineering aspects of a construction, maintenance and repair program at Watervliet Arsenal (WVA). The engineer prepares designs, drawings and specifications for construction, alteration, renovation, addition and rehabilitation of major and minor projects, including office buildings, laboratories, manufacturing and production facilities, warehouses, roads, sidewalks, ramps and stairs.

Key responsibilities

• Perform design and engineering on large, complex civil works projects, defining and organizing resources and setting design criteria.
• Design complete projects, including structural installations and support systems, and review designs, plans and specifications for technical adequacy and compliance with government standards and best engineering practice.
• Prepare plans and specifications for new and modified facilities, including preliminary layouts, machine foundations and equipment support systems.
• Review submittals and design studies, conduct field inspections, and resolve technical issues and non-compliance.
• Use computer software to generate and edit specifications and perform engineering computations.
• Prepare project cost estimates, change orders, modifications and supplemental agreements, and draft Independent Government Estimates.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers, engineering technicians and other personnel.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering accredited by ABET.
• US citizenship required to obtain facility credentials and authorization at this location.
• Valid and active United States driver's license and ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC).
• Ability to speak, read and write English and to meet physical demands and medical requirements.

Required skills

• Broad professional knowledge of engineering theories, standards and methods, with emphasis on construction and civil engineering.
• Experience with structural concrete engineering and construction standards, methods, materials and equipment.
• Ability to originate and advise on construction designs, engineering drawings, hydraulic designs and soil and foundation mechanics.
• Ability to oversee contracted work, track project progress and negotiate the cost of minor changes.
