Chief Electrical Officer

About the role

The Chief Electrical Officer will lead the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all shipboard electrical, automation, and control systems at Texas A&M Maritime Academy. This senior position ensures system reliability, compliance with USCG regulations and Class Rules, and provides mentorship to technical personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain operational reliability of critical vessel automation and safety systems, including routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Lead maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of high‑voltage electrical plant and associated automation, monitoring, and control systems.
• Prepare electrical and automation systems for USCG inspections and American Bureau of Shipping surveys.
• Support training of licensing students without compromising core duties.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum five years of experience as an Electrical Officer or Electro‑Technical Officer.
• U.S. Regular Passport and Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
• Ability to obtain a USCG Merchant Mariner endorsement (Wiper) and, if required, an Electrical Officer license.

• Proficiency with IEC‑based electrical drawings and manuals.
• Knowledge of communication protocols used to interconnect maritime equipment.
