Chemical and Process Engineer

About the role

Red Metals is building its first copper processing and refining systems in Charleston, South Carolina. The Chemical & Process Engineer will take processes from first principles through design, commissioning, and production, owning performance, reliability, and output.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design of copper processing flowsheets, mass and energy balances, and process models.
• Select, size, and integrate unit operations into a scalable system.
• Work with mechanical and controls engineers to build and commission the plant, including hands‑on troubleshooting.
• Define operating procedures, control strategies, and process KPIs; analyze data to improve yield, quality, and throughput.
• Own metallurgical performance, impurity management, and product quality; collaborate with vendors and contractors.

Required profile

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• 3‑8+ years of process engineering experience, preferably in metals, mining, refining, or heavy industry.
• Proven ability to take processes from design through commissioning to operation.
• Comfortable working on an industrial plant floor and making decisions with incomplete information.
• Demonstrated leadership potential in fast‑moving environments.
