Chem Tech

About the role

The Chem Tech supports new product process development by performing laboratory work assigned by chemists or chemical engineers. This includes evaluating R&D and business group proposals, conducting experiments, and communicating results to relevant stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare equipment and carry out laboratory simulations of plant and new processes using standard or non‑standard procedures.
• Conduct laboratory experiments under the direction of an SBU Specialist.
• Perform preliminary analysis and interpretation of test results, and prepare reports, memos, presentations, or database entries.
• Analyze raw materials, intermediates and products as required.
• Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and compile data in prescribed formats.
• Purchase, maintain, and manage inventory of raw materials and lab supplies.
• Ensure the work area is neat, clean, safe, and complies with ISO documentation requirements.
• Blend components or develop/modify formulations to meet objectives and analyze blends for physical and chemical properties.
• Participate in ISO‑related activities and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of ISO functions.
• Occasional travel as needed.

Required profile

• Formal wet‑lab training (trade school) or minimum 2 years experience in a chemical laboratory.
• Minimum of advanced high‑school chemistry or two semesters of college‑level chemistry.
• Chemistry degree preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to follow safe laboratory practices and procedures.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Wet‑lab techniques and basic laboratory procedures.
• Operation of standard laboratory instrumentation.
• Chemical analysis of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.
• Computer literacy for routine applications.
