Certified Surgical Technician

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is hiring a Certified Surgical Technician for a full-time, Monday to Friday position (6:30am-3:30pm) in Glendale Heights, Illinois. The role involves anticipating the surgeon's needs and keeping the circulating nurse informed throughout procedures, with a call requirement of one call every fifth weekend and 1-2 per week. An up to $3,000 sign-on bonus is offered.

Key responsibilities

• Anticipate the surgeon's needs and keep the circulating nurse informed throughout a procedure
• Assemble supplies, equipment and medications before the procedure
• Maintain aseptic technique and report environmental concerns to management
• Follow CDC isolation guidelines, use PPE correctly and perform hand washing
• Support operating room turnover and assist ancillary personnel
• Supervise team members, help orient and train new personnel, and respond to complaints promptly
• Participate in quality improvement activities and follow regulatory standards

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent; associate degree or technical/vocational school preferred
• Currently enrolled in or successfully completed an accredited surgical technology program
• 2+ years of technical experience preferred; 1+ year of relevant experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification required
• State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA CST or NCCT TS-C certification required

Required skills

• Aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation
• Knowledge of common healthcare practices and regulatory requirements
• Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office
• Clear communication, attention to detail, multitasking and teamwork
