Certified Respiratory Therapist – Per Diem

About the role

The University of Miami Health System is seeking a Certified Respiratory Therapist on a per‑diem basis to join the team at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This role supports physicians and nurses in delivering high‑quality cardiopulmonary care and contributes to research initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Perform cardiopulmonary tests such as electrocardiograms, stress tests, and lung capacity assessments.
• Conduct bronchopulmonary drainage and guide patients through breathing exercises.
• Set up and operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas delivery systems, environmental control units, and aerosol generators.
• Read physician orders, measure arterial blood gases, and determine appropriate therapy parameters.
• Educate patients and families on disease management, medication use, and respiratory equipment.
• Monitor vital signs and laboratory values during therapy, reporting adverse reactions to physicians.
• Maintain accurate patient charts and ensure respiratory equipment is clean, tested, and functional.
• Supervise and train students, respiratory therapy technicians, and assistants.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience.
• Adherence to university policies and commitment to patient safety.
