About the role
The University of Miami Health System is seeking a Certified Respiratory Therapist (Level 3) to join its clinical team on a full‑time basis. The role involves delivering advanced respiratory care, conducting diagnostic tests, and educating patients and families in a university‑based health setting.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct cardiopulmonary tests such as electrocardiograms, stress tests, and lung‑capacity measurements.
- Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and guide patients through breathing exercises.
- Set up and operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas delivery systems, environmental control units, and aerosol generators according to prescribed parameters.
- Read physician orders, measure arterial blood gases, and determine appropriate therapy type, method, duration, and medication dosages.
- Explain treatment procedures, educate patients and families on disease management, and monitor physiological responses.
- Maintain accurate patient charts and ensure respiratory equipment is inspected, cleaned, tested, and functioning safely.
- Mentor and train respiratory therapy students, technicians, and assistants.
- Adhere to university and unit policies, safeguarding institutional assets.
Required profile
- Current certification as a Respiratory Therapist (Level 3) in the state of Florida.
- Ability to interpret physician orders, arterial blood gas results, and adjust therapy accordingly.
- Strong communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Commitment to teaching and mentoring junior staff and students.
