Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Certified Pharmacy Technician in its Springfield, Illinois pharmacy. The technician supports pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of prescription medications with accuracy, professionalism and care, working on prescription processing, insurance billing, customer service and inventory while keeping confidentiality and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, answer simple inquiries and accept written prescription orders and refill requests at the discretion of the supervising pharmacist
• Contact doctors' offices to take or request refill prescriptions and gather accurate patient information
• Assist pharmacists in preparing prescription products, affix labels, mail prescriptions and file dispensed prescriptions
• Prepare and submit insurance claims and help with third-party billing and troubleshooting
• Order, receive and stock pharmacy supplies and log invoices
• Process cash transactions accurately and administer vaccines where legally allowed and certified
• Maintain the cleanliness of the pharmacy, keep patient information confidential under HIPAA and follow all pharmacy statutes and regulations
• Help in other store areas as needed and take on special projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified as a licensed technician through a certified national program, with continuing education kept up to keep the license active
• Vaccination certification required if administering vaccines
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk preferred
• Ability to stand and walk frequently, count, pour, package and label medications, and handle exposure to bloodborne pathogens and sharps

The anticipated hourly starting wage is $17.00 to $21.25 depending on experience. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
