Certified Oncology Data Specialist (Remote, FT/PT)

About the role

The Certified Oncology Data Specialist performs advanced clinical data abstraction for oncology registries, supporting state and national reporting, research, and performance improvement. This remote position requires expert judgment, precision in coding, and the ability to work independently.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, analyze, and abstract comprehensive oncology patient data from EHRs, operative reports, EMS documentation, and ancillary systems.
• Compile, code, and enter detailed care data into the oncology registry database while maintaining compliance with NCRA guidelines.
• Stay current with registry requirements through continuing education and professional engagement.
• Apply advanced clinical knowledge to abstract complex cases, including rare cancers and multiple primary tumors.
• Participate in quality assurance processes such as data validation, audits, and discrepancy resolution.
• Collaborate with oncology program leadership, performance‑improvement teams, and clinical staff to clarify documentation and support program goals.

Required profile

• Current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification from the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA).
• Minimum 1 year of experience in oncology registries (2+ years preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong clinical documentation interpretation ability.
• Exceptional attention to detail, data accuracy, and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Must be located in the United States.
