Certification Engineer – Airworthiness

About the role

BETA Technologies is seeking a strategic and tactical leader to drive FAA product certification for electric aviation projects. You will partner with internal teams and external regulators to navigate complex certification pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Lead FAA certification from application through testing, managing artifacts and timelines.
• Develop regulatory frameworks, special conditions, and compliance methods for electric propulsion and eVTOL designs.
• Create certification strategies for new and amended Type Certificates.
• Manage in‑house and consultant FAA designees and delegate certification activities.
• Develop conformity inspection plans and coordinate FAA inspections.
• Implement policies to obtain FAA Organization Designation Authorization (ODA).
• Engage with FAA and foreign regulators to secure airworthiness certificates and permits for sales demonstrations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of aircraft development and FAA certification experience.
• Ability to work autonomously in a fast‑paced startup environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for multi‑stakeholder technical settings.
• Organized, pragmatic, and creative problem‑solver.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Project.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (SharePoint, Outlook, Calendar, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
