Category Manager – Direct Precision Materials

About the role

Johnson & Johnson MedTech, through its Abiomed business, is seeking a Category Manager for Direct Precision Materials in Danvers, MA. The role will lead category strategy, sourcing, and supplier management for materials such as metals, ceramics, precision plastics, packaging, and chemicals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and support category sourcing strategy based on business needs, market intelligence, and supplier evaluations.
• Lead sourcing initiatives, prepare and execute RFQs, negotiate contracts, and drive cost‑management projects.
• Build and maintain a robust supply network, ensuring capacity, quality, and innovation for new product development.
• Manage supplier partnerships to mitigate risk, drive performance, and foster innovation.
• Oversee contract creation, approval, and compliance to maximize financial and operational outcomes.

Required profile

• 5‑8 years of procurement experience, preferably in medical devices or related industries.
• BSc in Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering or related field; MSc preferred.
• Strong understanding of direct precision materials (metals, ceramics, plastics, packaging, chemicals).
• Proven leadership, communication, and influencing skills across regions.
• Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma) and ERP systems.
