Casualty Desk Adjuster - RGA

About the role

Sedgwick is hiring a Casualty Desk Adjuster for its RGA business unit, working remotely from California. The role handles complex, technically challenging claims with coverage issues involving liability, damages and evidence, while delivering an exceptional customer experience. The stated starting pay is $100,000-$120,000 USD per year.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate injury claims against damages, the insurance contract, company policies and state laws, and develop exposures
• Investigate coverage, liability and damages in claims involving serious and catastrophic injuries and other legal issues
• Ensure timely referral of suits to counsel and evaluate exposure changes during discovery, considering costs and strategy for trial or settlement
• Manage defense counsel in litigation of serious, complex claims and complex coverage scenarios
• Plan for resolution of claims, focusing on limiting indemnity and expense leakage
• Draft coverage letters including reservations of rights and coverage denials, and maintain proper reserves on pending claims
• Travel as required and perform other duties as assigned

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree preferred; state-mandated adjusting license as required
• Insurance designations such as CPCU, AIC or ARM preferred
• At least 5 years (preferably 10+) of public entity and EPL (employment practices liability) and/or CSA (childhood sexual assault) claims handling experience
• 8 years of related experience, including personal lines claims, coverage evaluation and drafting coverage letters; commercial lines claims and multi-state litigation experience preferred

Required skills

• Knowledge of tort theories, legal concepts, negotiation strategies and litigation management
• Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
• Microsoft Office and PC literacy
• Analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills, and strong negotiation skills
• Ability to write comprehensive, accurate reports and work in a team
