About the role

The Cardiac Surgical Specialist supports the primary surgeon during cardiothoracic procedures at the University of Miami. This full‑time position involves intra‑operative assistance as well as pre‑ and post‑operative patient care to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Position patients for optimal exposure while monitoring skin integrity and comfort.
• Provide clear visualization of the operative site using appropriate techniques.
• Assist with hemostasis using permanent and temporary methods.
• Participate in volume replacement or auto‑transfusion as needed.
• Help close body planes and apply suitable wound dressings.
• Secure drainage systems to tissue and manage other intra‑operative equipment.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety, infection control, and documentation standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Minimum of 2 years of related experience.
• Applicable certifications as defined by the department.
• Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and technical proficiency with office and clinical software.
