Buyer – Procurement for Shipbuilding Projects

About the role
The Buyer will manage the end‑to‑end acquisition of goods and services needed for the construction, repair, and maintenance of vessels and related facilities. This position ensures timely, cost‑effective delivery while meeting quality and compliance standards.
Key responsibilities
- Program purchasing activities within BHS and respond to project‑related purchase requests.
- Generate purchase orders using the company’s purchasing system.
- Identify, evaluate, and solicit bids from potential suppliers.
- Review supplier proposals for accuracy and completeness.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules within budget.
- Add new suppliers to the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and ensure PO acknowledgment.
- Monitor supplier performance, expedite deliveries, and maintain procurement documentation.
- Approve vendor invoices and liaise with internal teams to resolve procurement issues.
- Facilitate supplier meetings to address problems and explore standardization.
Required profile
- Minimum 2 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, contract or program management.
- Familiarity with materials used in shipbuilding repair.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Team‑oriented with strong organizational abilities.
Required skills
- Oracle (or similar ERP system) – experience is a plus.
- Microsoft Word.
- Microsoft Excel.
