Building Technology Systems Consultant

About the role

WSP USA Buildings, Inc. is seeking a Building Technology Systems Consultant to design telecommunications and security systems for projects in Irvine, California (with consideration for Riverside and San Diego). The role involves full participation in the project lifecycle from concept through construction close‑out.

Key responsibilities

• Design telecommunications infrastructure (structured cabling, telecom spaces, pathway infrastructure) and electronic safety & security systems (IP video surveillance, access control, intercom).
• Create design narratives, coordinated construction documents, and specifications; produce technical drawings in collaboration with Revit/CAD staff.
• Participate in client and design team meetings, construction meetings, and review technology system submittals and RFIs.
• Conduct site surveys, monitor construction progress, and integrate security/telecom systems with other intelligent building systems (BMS, lighting control, AV).

Required profile

• B.S. in engineering or equivalent technical degree with 3‑5 years of experience designing high‑end security and telecommunications systems for the AEC consulting industry.
• Experience with a variety of building types (healthcare, commercial office, hospitality, high‑rise residential, mission‑critical, etc.).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work directly with architects, owners, and contractors.

Required skills

• Design of structured cabling systems and telecom spaces.
• Design of IP video surveillance, access control, and intercom systems.
• Proficiency with Revit and CAD production workflows.
• Knowledge of NEC, IBC, NFPA, BICSI, and EIA/TIA standards.
• Microsoft Office suite.
