Building Energy Performance Director

About the role

Lead a small, highly technical team of energy and sustainability engineers across the full lifecycle of building performance, from design advisory and energy modeling to commissioning, retro‑commissioning, and ongoing optimization. The role combines hands‑on field work with client interaction and strategic leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead commissioning, monitoring‑based commissioning, and retro‑commissioning projects, develop plans, conduct functional testing, and manage stakeholder meetings.
• Perform ASHRAE Level I‑III energy audits, analyze utility and operational data, identify and quantify Energy Conservation Measures, and produce technical reports.
• Optimize HVAC, air‑water distribution, and building automation systems; collaborate with modelers to inform high‑performance design decisions.
• Co‑lead and mentor engineers, manage project delivery, timelines, and serve as primary client contact.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Technology, Applied Physics or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in commercial building energy performance, covering new construction and existing facilities.
• Commissioning certification from ASHRAE, AEE or BCA and strong knowledge of building energy codes and ASHRAE standards.
• Project management experience with ability to delegate effectively.

Required skills

• Commissioning and functional testing of HVAC, electrical, lighting, fire protection and plumbing systems.
• Energy audit methodologies (ASHRAE Level I‑III) and utility data analysis.
• Building automation systems (BAS) troubleshooting and controls.
• Energy modeling tools such as EnergyPlus, DOE‑2, or DesignBuilder.
