About the role
The Bosque Field Technician supports the Open Space Division of Parks and Recreation by performing routine maintenance, restoration, and public‑service tasks on the Bosque grounds. Working both independently and alongside volunteers, the technician helps keep trails, facilities, and natural areas safe and welcoming.
Key responsibilities
- Assist restoration projects: plant trees and shrubs, manage erosion, remove invasive species and fuel loads.
- Maintain trails, fences, gates, restrooms, and other recreation infrastructure.
- Interact with the public to explain rules, trail etiquette, events, and answer questions.
- Collaborate with volunteers, youth crews, students, and partner organizations on projects and events.
- Support citizen‑science, monitoring, and research activities.
- Conduct patrols (walking/biking) and report observations for ongoing maintenance.
- Perform cleaning, trash removal, and general custodial duties.
- Use radio or cell phone to coordinate tasks with field and base teams.
Required profile
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least four (4) years of experience in natural resource management, grounds maintenance, or open‑space work.
- Valid New Mexico driver’s license (or ability to obtain by hire date).
- Ability to obtain a City Operator’s Permit within six months of hire.
- Willingness to work weekends or irregular days as needed.
Required skills
- Radio or cellular communication for field coordination.
- Basic operation of landscaping and maintenance equipment.
