Birth Certificate Clerk (HIM Associate)

About the role

R1 RCM is recruiting a Birth Certificate Clerk for an onsite position at Ascension St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville. The role helps ensure every newborn's birth is accurately documented and reported: collecting and verifying birth information, entering and submitting birth records in the Electronic Birth Registration System (EBRS), and guiding parents through the birth certificate process.

Key responsibilities

• Support parents in completing birth worksheets, paternity acknowledgments and related documentation.
• Collaborate with nursing, providers and HIM to resolve documentation discrepancies and ensure timely registration.
• Maintain compliance with state vital records regulations, HIPAA and hospital policies.
• Assist with audits, quality checks and accurate recordkeeping for birth documentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in HIM, medical records or vital records preferred.
• Detail-oriented, comfortable handling confidential information, and able to communicate clearly and compassionately with new parents and clinical staff.

Required skills

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy and data entry skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills in a healthcare setting.
• Ability to handle confidential information in compliance with HIPAA and to work independently.

The base pay range is $16.61 - $22.95 per hour, depending on role, level, location, experience and education. The position is onsite.
