About the role
The University of Miami’s Department of Pediatrics is seeking a full‑time Biostatistician 3 to provide advanced statistical support for research projects in Miami, FL. The role involves leading statistical design, analysis, and data management for genetic epidemiology and clinical studies.
Key responsibilities
- Collaborate with principal investigators to develop statistical analysis plans, estimate sample size and power.
- Design and develop research‑study databases during the planning phase of genetic epidemiology studies.
- Supervise and mentor junior biostatisticians, develop training materials, and oversee up to two master‑level statisticians.
- Perform data management and analysis on PC and Linux platforms, including pedigree analysis, query‑based extraction from large relational databases, and clinical/laboratory data handling.
- Conduct advanced statistical analyses such as multivariable modeling, survival analysis, longitudinal analysis, and machine‑learning methods (e.g., neural networks, SVM).
- Contribute to abstracts, manuscripts, posters, and presentations for peer‑reviewed publications and scientific meetings.
- Serve as statistical lead on grant applications and assist with IRB and funding agency methodological sections.
- Ensure compliance with university policies and safeguard institutional assets.
Required profile
- Demonstrated experience in advanced statistical analysis and project supervision.
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary research teams.
- Ability to develop and maintain research databases and manage large data sets.
- Strong written communication skills for manuscript and grant preparation.
Required skills
- Statistical analysis: multivariable modeling, survival analysis, longitudinal analysis.
- Machine‑learning techniques: neural networks, support vector machines.
- Data management on PC and Linux environments.
- Human pedigree analysis software.
- SQL or query‑based data extraction from relational databases.
- Sample‑size calculation and power analysis.
