Biosampling Standardization Specialist

About the role

The Biosampling Standardization Specialist will support NOAA SEFSC Fisheries Statistics Division by ensuring quality and consistency of dockside biosampling operations. This full‑time, onsite position combines field work, data analysis, and training development to improve the Trip Interview Program (TIP) across the U.S. coastline.

Key responsibilities

• Accompany federal and partner TIP samplers to field sites, collect biological samples, and deliver brief post‑trip reports.
• Generate quarterly QA/QC reports using the TIP web portal and summarize common protocol issues.
• Update and maintain SAS code for QA/QC reporting; coordinate testing with application developers.
• Query historical TIP data with SQL Developer, answer user inquiries, and fulfill custom data requests within defined timelines.
• Collaborate with technology vendors to enhance electronic data collection systems.
• Create and revise training materials, technical manuals, and curricula for electronic tools.
• Provide training and technical support to TIP samplers, responding to requests promptly.
• Participate in outreach events and attend conferences to stay current on sampling protocols.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a biological, fisheries, or related scientific field.
• At least three years of relevant experience in fish or marine biological sampling.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently on scientific tasks.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and training.
