Biometrics (Fingerprint) Technician - On Call

About the role

Amentum provides biometric services to the USCIS Application Support Center in Charleston, West Virginia. As a Biometrics Technician (BT) on an on-call (casual) basis, you join a team supporting USCIS ASC operations. You are expected to be available five days a week, Monday to Friday, 7:45am to 4:15pm, for substitute coverage as needed; hours are not guaranteed and the position suits people seeking supplemental income.

Key responsibilities

• Complete biometric registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States.
• Capture electronic fingerprints, photographs and signatures within established processing times.
• Screen applicants for a valid appointment notice and identification, and visually inspect them and their belongings before entry.
• Use crowd-control barriers to keep entry safe and organized, and help enforce ASC rules and policies.
• Protect personal identifiable information, including applicant paperwork, IDs and biometric data.
• Provide front-line customer service to applicants and visitors.
• Track processing times, reconcile biometric captures, maintain a visitor control log and complete other administrative paperwork.
• Report facility concerns to the Site Supervisor and assist in contacting law enforcement or first responders when necessary.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• US citizenship is required to obtain and maintain facility credentials at this location.
• Ability to speak and write in English; speaking a foreign language is desired.
• Ability to stand for the shift duration and to hold applicants' hands to take fingerprints.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced public-facing environment.
• Successful completion of biometrics training and certification within 60 days.

Required skills

• Basic computer skills, including typing.
• Customer service and handling the public with courtesy and sensitivity.
