Behavioral Intervention Specialist – School

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Behavioral Intervention Specialist to join PS 76 Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy in Buffalo. The specialist will support students, teachers, and families by implementing evidence‑based behavioral interventions and fostering a trauma‑sensitive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Recommend and implement appropriate behavioral interventions, including crisis‑management supports.
• Provide on‑site coaching and modeling for teachers and staff on behavioral strategies.
• Collect, analyze, and monitor behavioral data to track intervention outcomes.
• Develop and maintain Behavior Intervention Plans and contribute to IEP development.
• Deliver professional development on behavioral supports and MTSS/PBIS frameworks.
• Respond to students in need of de‑escalation and interact with them in a therapeutic, respectful manner.
• Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers, and district personnel.
• Complete required documentation and support district MTSS initiatives.

Required profile

• Certification in Special Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related mental‑health field.
• ABA Therapy certification or Board‑Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) preferred.
• Minimum four (4) years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of behavioral theory, applied behavior analysis, and disorders.
• Ability to handle intense emotional situations and apply de‑escalation techniques.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
