Behavioral Health Counselor – Recovery Center

About the role

The Counselor provides individual, group, and family services in a trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented setting. Working on the day shift at Thrive Now Recovery Center, you will assess clients, develop treatment plans, and document care in line with Iowa HHS, federal, and payer standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and risk screenings following state guidelines.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using ASAM criteria.
• Facilitate evidence‑based counseling sessions (CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing).
• Respond to clinical crises according to facility policy.
• Document services accurately to meet Iowa Medicaid, commercial payer, and Joint Commission requirements.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and coordinate care with medical and recovery staff.
• Communicate with external partners and families to ensure smooth transitions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
• Current, unrestricted counseling license or certification.
