Behavioral Health Attendant - Night Shift

About the role

aFit Staffing is recruiting a Behavioral Health Attendant for a State-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital in Logansport, Indiana. This is a 13-week contract assignment with potential for extension, working three 12.5-hour shifts per week from approximately 6:30 PM to 7 AM, including every other weekend and holiday rotations. The role supports adult and geriatric patients on their recovery journey in a structured, on-site healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

• Support patient recovery and treatment plans, observe and document patient condition and behavior, and give motivation, coaching, counseling and daily living skills instruction
• Monitor patients during meals, activities, classroom sessions and common-area interactions, and assist with occupational and recreational therapy programming
• Maintain a safe, secure environment: use approved de-escalation techniques, conduct room searches, escort patients to appointments, secure doors, issue keys, search visitors and operate communication systems
• Perform basic first aid, CPR and emergency response when required
• Help patients build independence, support living areas and personal supplies, and manage and distribute patient funds according to treatment plans
• Complete scheduling, filing, supply ordering and phone coverage, record progress notes, obtain and administer medication under the direction of a Registered Nurse, and keep patient information confidential

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience with scheduling, filing, progress notes, supply ordering and phone coverage
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
• Ability to work with adult and geriatric patients and to manage challenging behaviors using approved de-escalation techniques

Required skills

• CPR/First Aid certification (required)
• HIPAA knowledge (required)
• Highly desired: Indiana Medical Aide certification, CPI or similar de-escalation certification, and experience in behavioral health, residential treatment or corrections-adjacent settings
