Before & Afterschool Group Leader

About the role

The Group Educator works under the supervision of the Site Director/Program Administrator to plan and implement a curriculum for before and after‑school programs. The role includes providing homework assistance, communicating with families, and ensuring a safe, engaging environment for school‑age children.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver age‑appropriate curricula that foster cognitive, social‑emotional, and character development.
• Maintain compliance with EEC licensing standards and promote an inclusive culture.
• Communicate program information to parents and act as a liaison between school‑day teachers and families.
• Ensure a safe, healthy, and engaging environment, supervising transitions and child activities.
• Assist the Site Director with program space design, assessments, and progress reporting.

Required profile

• Must meet one of the education/experience combinations listed (e.g., Bachelor’s degree with three months experience, or high school diploma with six months experience).
• Prioritize children’s safety and emotional well‑being.
• Use positive, constructive child‑guidance methods.
• Adhere to YMCA policies and relevant licensing regulations.

Required skills

• Ability to plan and implement developmentally appropriate curricula.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with families and staff.
