Bakery Clerk - Morning Wrapper

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Bakery Clerk (Morning Wrapper) for its bakery department in Iowa City. The role keeps the bakery running smoothly and smells fresh, preparing and replenishing products, assisting customers at the counter and helping create a warm, welcoming experience. Daytime shifts are offered, and the position is hourly.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and make them feel welcome in the bakery
• Help customers find products, reach items, carry heavy purchases and take orders at the counter
• Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance and supply levels
• Prepare, finish and replenish baked goods, pulling product from the cooler or freezer
• Maintain proper sanitation and keep the work area clean and organized
• Check in product, put it away and review invoices as needed
• Operate the department register to process payments where applicable
• Remove trash and maintain a tidy department
• Work with teammates, follow the dress code and hygiene standards, and help in other store areas and on special projects

Required profile

• No prior experience required; training and support are provided
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions and communicate clearly with customers and teammates
• Able to use basic math for simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording
• Physical demands include frequent standing and walking, repetitive reaching and bending, and exposure to flour dust, noise, temperature extremes and damp conditions
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, and to operate a delivery vehicle according to DOT standards, where applicable
