Backend Data Engineer

About the role

Ruya AI is looking for a Backend Data Engineer to join the Quant team, responsible for building and operating the backend services that power our multi‑modal intelligence agent. You will design APIs, data pipelines and integrations that connect frontend, AI models, databases and external data sources in a mission‑critical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain backend services using Python, FastAPI, TypeScript and Express.
• Build secure REST APIs, Server‑Sent Events streams and WebSocket endpoints.
• Own PostgreSQL schema design, migrations, transactions and performance tuning.
• Implement OIDC/JWT authentication, resource‑scoped RBAC and authorization.
• Integrate external data providers handling authentication, pagination, rate limits and error handling.
• Define and document stable contracts for frontend and AI consumers.
• Write unit, contract and database‑backed integration tests.
• Instrument services with structured logging and monitor production issues using tools such as Sentry or Langfuse.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, quant and AI engineers throughout feature development.

Required profile

• Proven production experience with Python, FastAPI, TypeScript and Express.
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL schema design, migrations and performance analysis.
• Experience with OAuth/OIDC, JWT validation and role‑based access control.
• Understanding of concurrency, idempotency, retries, timeouts and distributed failure modes.
• Security‑focused approach to input validation, credential handling and logging.
• Ability to use logs, traces and error monitoring to diagnose issues.
• Clear communication and strong collaboration across engineering disciplines.
