Azure Cloud Engineer

About the role

1st Edge is seeking a highly skilled Azure Cloud Engineer to manage and operate hybrid‑cloud infrastructure for government customers. The role combines traditional system administration with deep cloud expertise, focusing on Azure services and automation.

Key responsibilities

• Provision, configure, and maintain cloud and on‑premises VMs; support migration of on‑prem apps to Azure.
• Automate resource deployment and infrastructure management using Terraform (or similar IaC tools).
• Manage Azure Storage (Blob, File, Queue) and backup/disaster‑recovery workflows.
• Configure virtual networks, subnets, NSGs, and ensure security compliance with DISA STIGs, encryption, Azure Group Policies, Entra ID and Key Vault.
• Operate Azure DevOps Server repositories, deploy and scale AKS clusters, and support developers and cyber teams.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship with an active DoD security clearance.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, plus 3+ years of sysadmin experience with significant cloud work.
• CompTIA Security+ CE (or other IAT Level II) certification required before start; additional cloud certifications desirable.

Required skills

• Azure administration (VMs, Storage, Backup/DR, Monitor, Log Analytics, Defender for Cloud, Cost Management, Update Management).
• Infrastructure‑as‑code tools: Terraform (or OpenTofu, Ansible, CloudFormation).
• Identity and security: Entra ID, RBAC, Key Vault, DISA STIGs.
• Container orchestration: Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Scripting/automation: PowerShell, Azure CLI, Azure DevOps pipelines.
