AVP Underwriting Manager – Middle Market

About the role

Zurich is looking for an AVP Underwriting Manager – Middle Market to support the East region production underwriting team in Washington DC. The role is hybrid with an expectation to be in the office or market three days per week.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of Property & Casualty production underwriters.
• Travel as needed to support the team and cultivate key broker relationships.
• Drive an engaging team culture and staff development.
• Maintain visibility in the marketplace and partner with the manager on flexible work scheduling.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 7+ years underwriting experience, or 14+ years claims experience, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with 5+ years underwriting experience.
• At least 2 years of management experience.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree, CPCU designation, advanced knowledge of insurance product lines.
• Strong communication, relationship‑building, and negotiation skills.
