AV Specialist – Classroom and Systems Support

About the role

The University of Maryland’s Division of Information Technology is seeking an AV Specialist to join the Academic Technology & Innovation team. You will support classroom technology, maintain AV infrastructure, and help drive learning innovations across campus.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for approximately 335 instructional technology classrooms.
• Assist faculty and department staff with AV equipment setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
• Operate, test, and repair complex networked AV systems, including Crestron control processors, touch panels, routers, and audio DSPs.
• Design, build, and install new classroom AV systems based on user requirements.
• Produce documentation, perform pilot installations, and ensure system reliability.
• Work evenings, nights, weekends, or on‑call during emergencies to maintain continuity of services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
• Minimum three years of hands‑on audio‑visual system experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to perform physical tasks (lifting up to 50 lb, climbing ladders, using power tools).
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of audio‑visual systems and equipment.
• Experience with Crestron control processors, touch panels, and peripherals.
• Familiarity with audio DSPs and network routers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
