Automotive Parts Warehouse Worker

About the role

The State of Illinois, through Central Management Services' Suburban North Garage, is hiring one Automotive Parts Warehouse worker in Des Plaines, IL. The role manages automotive parts from receiving and inventorying to issuing and shipping, using warehouse equipment and systems such as Fleet, Excel and Word to keep accurate records. It is a full-time, salaried position, Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with no hybrid availability.

Key responsibilities

• Operate the automotive garage parts issue rooms, storerooms and/or warehouse under direction.
• Receive, store, issue and prepare automotive and vehicular parts for shipping.
• Verify that received items meet the Procurement Services Division master contract specifications.
• Maintain inventory and reconcile it.
• Prepare, keyboard, compile and compose documents such as correspondence, memoranda and reports derived from vendor invoices, work orders and receiving reports.
• Support purchasing activities and assist mechanics with the parts they need.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent, or completion of an approved training program.
• Two years of experience keeping automotive or vehicular stores and records, or as an automotive mechanic.
• Preferred: two years of experience with storeroom and warehouse methods, inventory record keeping, procurement and requisitioning, warehouse safety rules, identifying parts visually or from mechanic descriptions, and maintaining stock records.
• Preferred: two years of experience using automated systems such as Fleet, Microsoft Office Suite, Word and Excel, and operating forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Valid driver's license, ability to use agency technology, local travel, and willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.

• Anticipated starting salary of $5,798 per month, range $5,798-$7,249 per month.
