Audit Associate – Metairie, LA

About the role

Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC is looking for an Audit Associate to join its Metairie office. The role offers a blend of field and office work on audit engagements, management services, and tax return preparation for a diverse client base.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in evaluating internal accounting controls and testing their effectiveness.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Examine client bank and subsidiary reconciliations, investigating any discrepancies.
• Schedule and document accruals, write‑offs of prepaid expenses, and deferred charges.
• Prepare and review S‑Corp, C‑Corp, partnership, multi‑state, individual, trust, and estate tax returns.
• Stay current with federal and state tax laws and provide tax planning, consulting, and compliance services.
• Interact closely with clients and their executives to deliver professional audit and tax services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with a major or concentration in accounting.
• Preferably progressing toward CPA certification.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional appearance, attitude, and conduct.
• High level of accuracy when handling numeric and textual information.
• Willingness to travel overnight and work occasional weekends as deadlines require.

Required skills

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Understanding of generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS).
• Working knowledge of federal and state income tax regulations.
• Experience preparing various tax returns (S‑Corp, C‑Corp, partnership, individual, trust, estate).
