Attorney (Non-Managing) – Tax Policy Division

About the role

The Georgia Department of Revenue is seeking an experienced attorney to join the Office of General Counsel, Tax Policy Division as an Attorney 3 or Attorney 4 (non‑managing). This senior legal advisor will provide strategic counsel on tax policy, support legislative initiatives, and help shape the legal framework for one of the state’s largest agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and recommend solutions on legal issues within the agency’s scope.
• Assist with implementation and administration of new statutory mandates.
• Conduct detailed legal research and draft regulations, policy bulletins, and legal opinions.
• Review tax‑related questions and provide guidance to internal stakeholders.
• Draft and negotiate settlement agreements and manage tax controversies.
• Collaborate with department leaders, the Attorney General’s Office, legislators, and external stakeholders to resolve complex issues and mitigate risk.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor degree and active bar admission.
• Significant experience in tax law or governmental legal practice.
• Ability to work under limited supervision and provide senior‑level legal advice.
• Strong analytical, research, and written communication skills.
