Attorney – Administrative License Suspension Specialist

About the role

The Georgia Department of Public Safety is seeking a qualified attorney to support its Administrative License Suspension (ALS) program. The role involves preparing and presenting cases related to DUI license suspensions and providing legal guidance across the department.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare cases for ALS hearings where the department seeks to suspend drivers’ licenses for DUI offenses.
• Represent the department at statewide ALS hearings before the Office of State Administrative Hearings, including in‑person, video, and phone hearings.
• Draft and file motions in Administrative Court on behalf of troopers and officers.
• Respond to emails and inquiries concerning ALS and DUI matters.
• Create PowerPoint presentations on DUI case law and ALS procedures.
• Teach classes at the trooper school on DUI law, ALS issues, and conduct mock trials.
• Speak at seminars and serve as a legal resource for internal and external customers.
• Research and analyze statutory and case law affecting the department.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of legal trends and assist with monthly legal updates.

Required profile

• Licensed attorney with education and experience appropriate for Attorney levels 1‑4.
• Willingness and ability to travel statewide for in‑person hearings.
• Strong written and oral communication skills for legal advocacy and teaching.
• Ability to work onsite within the Georgia Department of Public Safety headquarters.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint for preparing legal presentations.
