Attorney 3 – Workers’ Compensation Appeals

About the role

The Attorney 3 position supports the State Board of Workers’ Compensation by reviewing and resolving appellate appeals. Working under broad supervision, the attorney provides legal analysis, policy recommendations, and representation for the agency.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the three‑member Board in reviewing, analyzing, and disposing of workers’ compensation appeals.
• Attend appellate oral arguments and conduct legal research.
• Draft memoranda, orders, awards, and written responses to clients.
• Recommend acceptance, rejection, or settlement of claims in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Ensure compliance with SBWC policies and applicable laws.
• May be trained as a Settlement Adjudicator and support professional advancement initiatives.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school.
• License to practice law in Georgia or eligibility for admission within one year of hiring.
• At least two years of relevant legal experience, or two years at the lower‑level Attorney 2 position.
• Member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia (or eligible for admission on motion).
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral presentation abilities.
