Associate/Full Professor and Chair of Mathematics

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks an experienced scholar to serve as Chair of the Department of Mathematics while holding the rank of Associate or Full Professor. This 12‑month, tenure‑eligible appointment reports to the Dean of the School of Education, Social Sciences, and the Arts.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement an ongoing program assessment and improvement plan.
• Ensure compliance with national accreditation standards and processes.
• Lead curriculum development and promote innovative teaching, including online delivery.
• Foster a student‑centered environment that supports academic and professional growth.
• Manage departmental finances and resources.
• Advise, mentor, and supervise a diverse student body.
• Evaluate faculty performance and encourage scholarly activity.
• Promote a collegial, collaborative departmental culture.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Mathematics Education.
• Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising.
• Record of scholarship, research, and successful grant acquisition.
• Eligibility for tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
• Experience in curriculum planning, online instruction, and student mentoring.
