Associate/Assistant Research Professor – Climate Strategy Modeling

About the role

The Center for Global Sustainability at the University of Maryland seeks up to three research faculty members (Associate or Assistant Research Professor) to lead national climate‑strategy modeling and analysis. This three‑year renewable, non‑tenure‑track position focuses on research that informs policy, with optional teaching responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and apply integrated assessment models to evaluate climate, energy, and sustainability strategies for the United States and selected emerging economies.
• Produce high‑impact research outputs and publications that address non‑CO₂ greenhouse‑gas emissions and sub‑national climate actions.
• Engage with policy makers and stakeholders to translate research findings into actionable recommendations.
• Mentor graduate students and contribute to the Center’s collaborative research environment.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Engineering, Economics, Sciences, Public Policy, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• 3–5 years (assistant rank) or 5–7 years (associate rank) of post‑doctoral research experience.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly publications and leadership in climate‑strategy research.
• Experience working at the research‑policy interface and ability to secure external funding.

Required skills

• Integrated assessment modeling or equivalent climate‑strategy modeling tools.
