About the role
The Associate Director of Technology Career Advising serves as Northeastern University’s dedicated career specialist for students pursuing full‑time roles in software engineering, data science, AI, cybersecurity, IT and related creative fields. This senior position leads sector‑based advising, designs programming, and cultivates employer partnerships to help students secure internships and full‑time offers.
Key responsibilities
- Provide individualized career coaching for technology, data, cybersecurity, media, arts, architecture and gaming students, covering resume, portfolio, technical interview prep and offer evaluation.
- Design, deliver and continuously improve sector‑specific programming such as industry explorations, mock interviews, career fairs and salary‑negotiation workshops.
- Manage and mentor up to two Assistant Directors, offering coaching, performance feedback and professional development.
- Build and sustain relationships with tech employers of all sizes to generate full‑time hiring pipelines for graduates.
- Monitor labor‑market trends, AI‑driven hiring changes and emerging roles, translating insights into advising content and student resources.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s in higher education, counseling, computer science or related field preferred.
- 4–6 years of experience in career services, technical recruiting, workforce development or the technology industry with deep knowledge of tech hiring practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff, provide coaching and drive a student‑centered advising practice.
- Strong presentation, interpersonal and data‑analysis skills to interpret employment outcomes and inform programming.
Required skills
- Proficiency with career management platforms such as Handshake.
- Experience using labor‑market intelligence tools like Lightcast and LinkedIn Talent Insights.
- Familiarity with AI‑enabled career development tools and data‑driven decision making.
