Associate Director, Economic Modeling

About the role

The Associate Director, Economic Modeling will lead the design and delivery of rigorous economic modeling analytics to support business decisions within Scientific Affairs. This senior position works closely with cross‑functional teams to develop innovative models that inform product strategy and payer engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead best‑in‑class economic modeling methodologies, including parametric and non‑parametric techniques, to support the Innovative Medicine portfolio.
• Collaborate with Scientific Affairs, Medical Affairs, New Products & Business Development, and Global Health Economics to create and adapt cost‑effectiveness, budget impact, and epidemiological models.
• Provide early modeling input for clinical trial design, go/no‑go decisions, and strategic product planning.
• Conduct horizon scanning of emerging modeling methods and integrate insights into J&J’s modeling strategy.
• Present model results to stakeholders, incorporate feedback, and ensure models meet North American market needs.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in health economics or related field (PhD preferred).
• Minimum 6 years of experience in health economic modeling (or 4 years with a doctorate).
• Proven experience developing health economic models and working with consumers of economic information.
• Strong statistical background, especially in advanced survival analysis.
• Excellent written and oral communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Visual Basic and modeling software such as TreeAge Pro, R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, or WinBUGS.
• Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau and Spotfire.
• Knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and predictive modeling techniques.
