Assistant Starter (Horse Handling)

About the role
The Assistant Starter supports the smooth operation of horse races by handling horses before they enter the starting gates. Working on‑site at the racetrack, you will collaborate with horsemen and ensure that each horse is properly prepared for competition.
Key responsibilities
- Load horses into the starting gates prior to each race.
- Assist in scheduling and supervising the schooling of horses.
- Identify and list unruly horses, ensuring they receive additional schooling before racing again.
- Maintain clear communication with horsemen and provide direction as needed.
Required profile
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Prior experience in a similar horse‑handling role preferred.
- Excellent communication abilities.
- Physical agility to stand, walk, climb, reach, lift, bend and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any necessary licenses or certifications.
