Assistant Staff Scientist – Research Position

About the role

The Department of Pharmacology at UAMS seeks an Assistant Staff Scientist to conduct laboratory animal research, focusing on behavioral studies with rodents. This full‑time, on‑site position supports ongoing projects that advance scientific knowledge in pharmacology and neuroscience.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and calibrate equipment used for monitoring small laboratory animals.
• Manage laboratory supplies, coordinate orders, and monitor inventory.
• Conduct behavioral procedures, surgical interventions, tissue collection, and analysis on laboratory rodents.
• Support daily research operations and ensure accurate record‑keeping.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff and students to promote a safe, productive research environment.
• Train and instruct personnel and students on proper research protocols.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements and approved research protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a science‑related field with at least two years of relevant research experience (PhD preferred).
• Demonstrated experience conducting behavioral procedures with laboratory rodents.
• Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory staff and students.
