Assistant Staff Scientist

About the role

Join the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to conduct scientific research using laboratory animal models. The Assistant Staff Scientist will support behavioral, surgical, and tissue‑collection studies while maintaining rigorous records.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and calibrate equipment used for monitoring small laboratory animals.
• Manage laboratory supplies, place orders, and monitor inventory.
• Perform behavioral procedures, surgeries, and tissue collection on rodents.
• Record experimental data accurately and ensure compliance with safety and protocol standards.
• Collaborate with laboratory staff and students to promote a productive research environment.
• Train personnel and students on proper research techniques.
• Assist with daily operational activities and other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in a science‑related field with at least two years of relevant research experience (PhD preferred).
• Demonstrated experience conducting behavioral procedures with laboratory rodents.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff and students in a laboratory setting.
